Hello, this is your friendly neighbourhood Jonsie here =)
With all of the new members I figured we'd probably need a guide as to how to go about things on Shifting Tales. So, here we go!
Applying For a Character
Step1: Read ALL of the Information pages. They will be extremely helpful.
Step2: Go to the Creation board and into the Character Application thread.
Step3: Copy/Paste the application into a word document and fill it out as you wish.
Step4: Create a new thread for your application in the Creation board.
Step4: While you wait for Staff to go over your application, post in the Introductions board and introduce your shiny, new self.
Once you've been accepted don't forget to post your shift in the Taken Shifts thread found in the Archives in the Storage Information sub-board. It is located HERE.
ALSO, if you're using someone famous for your characters picture, please post in the Faceclaim thread within the Creation board.
You Have a Character, Now What?
There are a number of things you can do now, depending on where you want to go and what you want to do. In no particular order, here are things that can be done to keep you busy and develop your memberness around here:
1. Create a plot page.
- Plot pages are very useful in developing character relations as well as OOC relations. There is no real set way on how to develop a plot page, so have fun with it and do what you like. It can be as simple as: "Here is the basics about my character, I'm looking for friends, enemies and a lovaaah." Or it can be super complex with crazy colours and fun-ness.
2. Create a Magic Card.
- Magic Cards are like your inventory for your character. Here is where you can keep track of your monies, shifts, jobs, resumes, threads, random items found, shop items, ect. This is for YOUR benefit as a role player so that when you have 3 characters running around you can keep track of who's doing what and where.
3. Apply For a Job.
- Jobs are what get you ALLTHEMONIES!!!1!!!1!!!11!!! They are relatively easy to get though some require prerequisites and such, so make sure to check that out before applying. Please read the eventual section below on how to apply for a job.
Getting a Job
Step1: Read the Information page pertaining to jobs, prerequisites and ect in the information pages section.
Step2: Determine what sort of career you'd like your character to get into. I suggest choosing something you have the muse for, as earning monies is based on posts. You should also take a look at the shift examples, if you really don't want your character to take the form of a farm animal, don't choose Farmhand as your career.
Step3: Go to the Iridesial Square Category and look for the board that pertains to your chosen job.
Step4: Go to the Resume Mailbox and check to see if there is a position open or not. If not, you're plum out of luck, check back later or choose another career. If so, proceed to step 5.
Step5: Open a word document and create a resume. Make it colourful and fun, or plain and simple. Make sure your character meets all prerequisites and that all of the necessary information is in your resume.
Step6: Make sure the resume is written as though your character is applying (first person). Example: "I love working outdoors and don't mind working in all kinds of weather."
Step7: Post your resume in its own thread.
Step8: Wait for approval BEFORE making any work posts. There may be things you need to work on, or maybe the head of whatever career you're applying for just doesn't think your character fits.
Step9: Once you're approved, read below!
Making Job Posts
Job posts and threads are what get you the monies. You're going to want to use your threads for work as much as possible if you want to afford traps, lucky charms and rare event items.
To make a job thread, you need to follow a few simple criteria which are as follows:
1. Make your thread somewhere relevant to your job. As long as you have a reason to be somewhere, you can technically make a job thread anywhere. Merchants can go to the plains to find wares to sell, Farmhands can be in the forest trying to corral lost sheep, ect.
2. Label your thread as a working thread by putting [W] for working.
3. At the top of each post, please put the amount of monies you are earning in said post. Your first post should be the amount you earn for opening a working thread, and your subsequent posts should be on a per post basis.
4. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR MONIES IN A MAGIC CARD! I can not emphasize that more.
