Shifts and Forms Info
People who live in the towns within the Wall are blessed with the gift of shifting. Each character will unlock and earn new creatures to shift into entirely unique to that character. No two characters will ever have the same shift.
Because there are both shifters and animals that live in the same area the only way to tell between a true animal and a shifter is that shifters can mindspeak. They project their thoughts out and can contact others through these means.
* Note: When mindspeaking please put the message in coloured italics so that we know it's a mindspeak and not just a thought. Thoughts can be left in italics or put in apostrophes ' and '
As a shifter acquires forms said forms alter the shifter's very soul and become one with the humanoid. This is the reason that no two shifters will ever have the same form. With this in mind it is no surprise that shifters, both in a shift and occaisonally out (though they must be extremely attuned to access in human form) can access the instinct of the animal. The instinct scale is wide and has many variations, some shifters are attuned naturally to the instincts of their shifts and can even become controlled by them, while others don't sense the instincts at all. This varies from shifter to shifter. Just because one has two attuned parents does not mean that they will be attuned themselves.
Shifts become one with the soul though it is possible for one to remove a shift; but at a great cost. Madame Majik carries potions hidden away in her tent which can tear a shift from the soul though she will not advertise them to the public. To remove a shift is near blasphemy and is one of the worst things one can do in the eyes of other shifters. When the potion is purchased and drank it causes a severe amount of physical and emotional anguish to the one who has taken it and the pain will last for up to a week depending on how long the shift has been with the shifter. It has been said the trauma caused by tearing at ones soul can cause Kripples, though it hasn't been scientifically proven.
Once a shift has been cut from the soul it will still remain inaccessible to any other shifter for the rest of eternity.
* Note: Pictures of shifts that have been removed will be darkened considerably in the taken section and the name of the shifter will be
